A salary slip, often called a payslip or pay stub, is a statement given to an employee for each pay period. It explains how the final amount paid was reached, starting from total earnings and subtracting deductions and taxes.
Most salary slips include the employer’s name and contact details, the employee’s name and identifiers, the pay period and pay date, an itemised list of earnings and deductions, tax information, the net salary, and optionally attendance, payment method and notes.
Gross earnings are the sum of all earnings such as basic salary, allowances, bonuses and overtime. Total deductions add up items like taxes, pension contributions, insurance and loan repayments. Net salary is gross earnings minus total deductions.
Earnings are amounts added to an employee’s pay, for example basic salary, housing allowance or commission. Deductions are amounts withheld, such as income tax, retirement contributions or salary advances. Employer contributions are paid by the employer on top of salary and do not reduce net pay.
Gross salary is the total before any deductions. Net salary—sometimes called take-home pay—is what the employee actually receives after all deductions and taxes are subtracted.
Salary slips give employees a transparent record of their pay, help employers keep consistent payroll records, and can support personal budgeting, bookkeeping and record keeping.
Select a template, fill in the employer and employee sections, choose the pay period and currency, add earnings and deductions, configure tax, and review the automatically calculated summary in the live preview.
